Has the world gone crazy, or is it business as usual?

I was in the hospital today, and while waiting to pick up some medicine, a nurse from South Africa started talking to me. The main topic was about what happened to in Madrid yesterday, the nurse said that the "world has gone crazy", with all the bombing, and killing around us.

In my opinion, the world has not gone crazy, the only difference we have right now, is that whatever happens is beamed to our living rooms in a matter of minutes, and we can watch the events unfolding live more or less. The savagery of humans has always existed, its been there since the dawn of civilisation, the only difference is that people used to hear about it few months after the killing had happened. Even the Greeks who have set for us the basis of democracy, did indulge in some massacres of their own.

What worries me about this, is the fact that a large majority of people will try to justify what is happening today, and apply some spin on it, if the people who had committed those crimes were of the same race culture etc. They do not realise that a crime is a crime whether committed by people of the same creed or not, ordinary people are always at the receiving end. I could understand fanatics applying spin, but now even seemingly ordinary human beings are jumping on the band wagon. It is as if they are scared and be frowned upon if they do not go with current way of thinking. It is kind of either you conform or be ostarcised for the rest of your life. Am I being paranoid or we heading into a conformist world, where individualism is being eroded to accomodate for the the big picture that is being set up for us?

To the people who have sent me all those wonderful emails about the bombing in Madrid, it is news to me that ETA has decided to turn muslim and try to establish an Islamic empire in Spain. Just to clarify something over here, the Spanish government hold ETA as the primary suspect in the atrocity that happened yesterday. ETA is a Basque nationalist movenment that was founded in 1959 and is calling for the independence of the Basque region from Spain. It might be a disappointment to you, but they have nothing to do with Islam.

LONG LIVE IRAQ
